WHAT IS AEROGEL?

Aerogels are highly porous solids, usually made of amorphous silica, with over 90 percent of their volume consisting of air-filled pores. These tiny pores drastically reduce the transfer of energy that occurs through the movement of air molecules. This makes aerogels one of the most efficient insulating materials. One litre of this material weighs only 70 to 100 grams, making it ten times lighter than water.

Water-repellent, yet vapour-permeable. Water vapour and moisture can pass through the aerogel without any problem. At the same time, even the smallest water droplets have no chance of penetrating or adhering and reducing the insulation performance.

HYDROPHOBIC

No moisture absorption and therefore no deterioration of insulation properties due to moisture. This water-repellent property also ensures a certain degree of long-term durability.
