Aerogel Architecture Award 2022

01.12.2023
In early August 2022, the Aerogel Architecture Award was presented for the second time at Empa. The winning project came from Germany, with second and third place going to buildings in Switzerland. All three demonstrate impressively how historic structures can be brought up to modern energy standards using Aerogel materials.
Architects, civil engineers, and students were invited to submit examples of Aerogel use in architecture, construction, renovation, and heritage conservation for the Aerogel Architecture Award 2022, in the categories realized buildings and student projects. Empa sought the best internationally realized projects from architects and civil engineers, as well as design concepts from students in these fields.

The award-winning projects receive significant visibility and are published in leading international journals and online platforms. The prize recognizes outstanding achievements in energy efficiency, unconventional solutions, translucent daylight design, and high-performance building solutions using super-insulating Aerogel materials.
